Comparing Electrolysis Hair Removal Versus Alternative Techniques
Excess hair removal is a serious concern for many. Hair removal was not as accepted as it is currently only a generation ago. Nevertheless strategies for hair removal had been around for centuries. The most popular method is perhaps electrolysis. Electrolysis was first used to remove unwanted hair in 1875 by an ophthalmologist named Dr. Charles E. Michael on a person to remove an ingrown eyelash. Unwanted hair is often hereditary. It is also a result of hormone levels, by certain medications and conditions. Hair on women's upper lip and limbs are good examples. There are different methods available to remove unwanted hair. Electrolysis is the most popular of them. It's known as the only hair removal method that is permanent.
The different techniques available are discussed against electrolysis here.
The simplest technique is actually shaving. However shaving may cause ingrown hair in the pubic areas. Electrolysis prevents all further hair growth by completely destroying the hair follicles.
Tweezing is another simple technique but a very painful one. It is efficient only if there are only a few hairs to get rid of. Plucking can cause scars as well as ingrown hair. Neither scars nor ingrown hair is a problem with electrolysis.
Waxing is a technique where wax is applied on the skin and pulled off when dry. The wax pulls out unwanted hair while being plucked off. The process is painful and can trigger skin irritation and scars particularly for sensitive skin. Electrolysis causes very little discomfort and no soreness.
Threading is a approach where hair is pulled out using a loop of cotton thread. Although inexpensive it can cause folliculitis, reddening and scars.
Sugaring is an ancient Middle Eastern practice where a paste or gel made from sugar, lemon juice and water is applied to your skin in the direction of growth and pulled off in the opposite direction. It is also somewhat painful and can trigger itchiness and infection. Again these are not issues with electrolysis.
Depilation is a process where hair is removed by applying over the counter chemicals in the form of cream. The chemicals might cause scars and infections which are not caused by electrolysis.
Oral medication like the Food and Drug Administration approved Vaniqa is good in all respects only that it retards hair growth however doesn't get rid of unwanted hair whilst electrolysis permanently removes hair.
Laser method where the pigment of hair is destroyed using laser beams is a very preferred technique. But it does not work in light colored hair such as grey or blond hair. But electrolysis works in all types of hair.
Thus it's clearly seen that electrolysis is in almost all ways better than any other hair removal approach. It's the least painless. It also does not have any long term unwanted side effects like scarring. Neither does it bring about any infection. It works on all people and is the only hair removal technique accepted as being permanent by the Food and Drug Administration and the American Medical Association. On the other hand it's a time consuming and expensive process since it takes anywhere between 15 and 30 sessions to complete the process and each session costs around$ 45. Unless you are looking for a non permanent solution electrolysis is what you need to opt for.
